ASTM A53 standard refers to seamless and welded black and hot-dipped galvanized steel pipe.
Size (mm):
O.D.: 6.0mm - 180 mm
W.T.:1mm - 30 mm
Length: max 11800mm
Steel grade:
ASTM A53 Grade.A; Grade.B
Application:
For mechanical and pressure use, and also for transporting steam, water, gas and etc.
Mill test certificates will be issued according to EN10204/3.1B .
The steel categorized in this standard must be open-hearth, basic-oxygen or electric-furnace processed and must have the following chemical requirements: carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, copper, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium.
The tubing shall undergo a seamless or welding process. Tension, bend, and flattening tests shall be performed to make sure that it must adhere to the mechanical properties of the standard.
Mechanical properties:
Standard | Grade | Tensile strength(MPa) | Yield strength (MPa) |
ASTM A53 | A | ≥330 | ≥205 |
ASTM A53 | B | ≥415 | ≥240 |
Chemical requirements:
Element | Type S | |
Grade A | Grade B | |
Carbon max. % | 0.25 | 0.30 |
Manganese % | 0.95 | 1.2 |
Phosphorous, max. % | 0.05 | 0.05 |
Sulfur, max. % | 0.045 | 0.045 |
Copper, max.% | 0.40 | 0.40 |
Nickel, max. % | 0.40 | 0.40 |
Chromium, max. % | 0.40 | 0.40 |
Molybdenum, max. % | 0.15 | 0.15 |
Vanadium, max. % | 0.08 | 0.08 |
The hydrostatic test shall be applied, without leakage through the weld seam or the pipe body. Nondestructive electric test shall be made to make sure that the full volume of the pipe must be in accordance with the standard.
The purchaser shall have the right to perform any of the inspections and tests set forth in this specification where deemed necessary to ensure that the pipe conforms to the specified requirements.
